I’ve started learning how to make lino prints recently and I’m gonna keep track of the stuff I make on this blog. Here’s the things I’ve made so far:

“Not another cow youtube noooooo” this is the first print I made after upgrading my materials and tools from the cheapest stuff that wasn’t printing very well at all. I had bought a cheap kit and the ink was too runny, the carving tool was extremely hard to use, and the paper was too thick. The combination of all those things made some really bad prints. For this one I bought a pack of very light Japanese papers, oil based ink, and a much better carving tool and it came out much better.

The next print I made was this one. When I went to the art shop there were only 2 pieces of lino left, one was the small one I used for the first print (the cow youtube one) and the other was a 30 x 30cm lino piece which I used for this print.
I really rushed the design on this one because I wanted to get to the carving part and I regret that. I wasn’t into this drawing at all and so didn’t get any satisfaction from making it…. oh well I learned something.

This one is me getting annoyed about something when working with a computer, I also drew a snake in it but there’s no reason for that. I did this one at the weekend.
I left too many marks in the background, but I had also used a different kind of lino for this; “traditional lino” (I didn’t know that’s what it was when I bought it). It’s backed onto some kind of hessian type material and isn’t rubbery like the other linos I used. So after I did the first print, I tried to wash the lino so I could carve more of the background out, but then because of the water and the hessian material the whole piece of lino curved 😦 I’ve tried to flatten it out as much as possible but it’s still a bit curved and hard to print now…

I printed this one today.
